BECOME A COASTWALK MEMBER

Why join Coastwalk? Coastwalk members come from all walks of life: hikers and folks who just like to sit and enjoy the beach; elders and those just starting to discover the wonder of the coast.  What draws us together is our shared vision of a coast with access for all, well stewarded through education and service programs.

As a Coastwalk member, you join with a broad, grass-roots community committed to protecting our treasured California coast.  Through Coastwalk, we speak as one voice to protect public access to our coastal places and to advocate for completion of the California Coastal Trail.

Your dues support a team of 2 full-time and 2 part-time staff and hundreds of unpaid volunteers throughout the state.  These volunteers:

  • lead programs that educate people of all ages about the wonders of our coast and orchestrate beach clean-ups;
  • build public interest and excitement about the Coastal Trail, get new segments  designated, and get signs placed along it;
  • represent Coastwalk at public hearings, planning sessions and work with other organizations to protect and steward our coast.

Here is our beloved Chuckwagon, built in 1987 and used on more than 20 Coastwalks since then. Now the wood and hardware have worn out, and we must rebuild it before this summer season.

EMPLOYER MATCHING PROGRAM

One of the easiest ways to increase your gift to Coastwalk is through your employer's Matching Gift program. Thousands of companies, including corporations, foundations, not-for-profit organizations, and associations, match their employees’ charitable contributions—sometimes for as much as double the amount of the initial gift.

Companies have various methods for matching gift request submissions: online forms, automated phone systems, or a paper form that you submit to Coastwalk. Many companies will match personal gifts, such as cash, stocks, marketable securities, and the value of your volunteer time. Companies may also match gifts from employee spouses, retirees, and board members.

Here's how to take part:

  1. Contact your employer's Human Resources office to determine if your company matches employee donations. If your company does not currently match employee donations, you might suggest they consider doing so.
  2. Obtain a Matching Gift form and review the program guidelines to ensure that Coastwalk is eligible to receive matching gifts. Conditions and criteria for gift matching vary by employer.
  3. Complete the donor section of the form and submit it, along with your check or credit card authorization, to:

LEGACY TO COASTWALK

Help keep our promise to the future!

If you are thinking about making charitable contributions in your will or trust, please consider including a gift to Coastwalk. When you leave a legacy for the California coast, you help to ensure that the generations to follow will have access to our wonderful beaches, bluffs and trails.

Cash Bequest
You can leave Coastwalk a specific dollar amount.

"I give to Coastwalk located at 555 S. Main St. Suite 1, Sebastopol CA 95472 the sum of $______ ."

Bequest of Property
You can also leave specific assets, such as securities, an interest in real estate (such as a residence), or tangible personal property (e.g., works of art, antiques, coins) to Coastwalk.

"I give, devise and bequeath to Coastwalk located at 825 Gravenstein Hwy. North Suite 8 Sebastopol CA 95472 my interest in (describe the property and exact location)."

Retirement Plan
You can designate Coastwalk as a beneficiary of the remainder of your IRA, Keogh, tax-sheltered annuity, qualified pension, or profit-sharing plan.

Residuary Bequest
You can leave all or a percentage of the remainder of your estate to Coastwalk after the payment of any specific bequests and all estate-related expenses.

See the honor roll of our incredible volunteers!

Volunteers are the heart and soul of Coastwalk, and there are many ways that you, too, can get involved. In whatever manner you choose to volunteer, you can be sure that you will be sharing the work with a fun and diverse group of people! Our volunteers run the gamut - some provide meals on our Summer Coastwalks, others lead a coastal day hike in their area, others attend Coastal Commission planning meetings or use a GPS unit to map a portion of the California Coastal Trail. We would love to help you find a way to work for our coast too. Contact us and let's figure out how you can get involved!
