Coastwalk Cleanup Crew

The Coastwalk Cleanup Crew was created in 2020 to assist individuals and families to continue Coastal Cleanups. JOIN US in keeping our Coast beautiful all year long!

More than just a one-day cleanup the Coastwalk Cleanup Crew program is intended to engage our community in being part of the solution in marine debris removal by encouraging multiple cleanups and data collection through-out the year.

WHAT IS COASTAL CLEANUP DAY?

California Coastal Cleanup Day, an annual beach and inland waterways cleanup, is the State’s largest volunteer event. In 2019, in Sonoma County  volunteers removed more than 38,890 pounds of trash and 1458 pounds of recyclables from the Sonoma coast and inland waterways.

When combined with the International Coastal Cleanup day activities, organized by the Ocean Conservancy on the same day, California Coastal Cleanup Day has become part of one of the largest volunteer events in the world.

WHY ARE BEACH CLEAN UPS IMPORTANT?

California’s coast and waterways have historically been collecting spots for annual accumulations of trash and debris. This debris, if not removed, can be fatal to all manner of marine wildlife, damages our State’s economy, and can even become a human health hazard.

Coastal Cleanup is fun! It is a great way for families, students, service groups and neighbors, to join together, take care of our fragile marine environment, show community support for our shared natural resources and impact future public policy to protect our coastline and environment.
