The San Mateo Classic is a true CCT gem, traversing wild beaches, pristine marine reserves, and the extraordinarily diverse coastal ecosystem and landscape that makes the area so special. Carrying only a day pack, hikers will climb up and over Montara Mountain, experiencing plant and animal communities unique to the area – with a chance to spot an endangered Peregrine Falcon. Two nights will be spent under the stars and two nights indoors at the Montara Lighthouse Hostel and at Pigeon Point Lighthouse. Other highlights include: a visit to the Fitzgerald Marine Preserve; a tour of Pescadero Marsh Natural Preserve; and a docent-led tour of Ano Nuevo State Reserve.
